This Thompson shows wear typical of a police department Colt, with various scratches, small rust freckles, and other patina on its original finish as a result of many years of police service. If it could talk I can only imagine the stories it would tell. The cyclic rate of fire was reduced to 700 rounds per minute. The buttstock has the correct anchor marking on its nose, indicating it was manufactured by Remington for Colt. I have a original copy of this given to me by a friend of the Eickhoff family. In the fall of 1939 the French ordered 3,750 Model 1928 guns and 30 million rounds of ammunition. John Taliaferro Thompson was born in 1860 and graduated from West Point in the class of 1882. The second volume centers on more detailed descriptions of the larger contracts and an index of persons, police departments, counties and just about any other entity where a Thompson may have been shipped. The Thompson was most popular among specialized troops such as Rangers, Marine Raiders, armored and parachute units. The Last Known Colt Thompson in the U.S.
Note: This two volume set of Thompson histories will be breaking new ground as far as micro history and never before seen histories are concerned. However, it is the highest serial numbered Colt Thompson known to exist in the United States at this time. In the ensuring years, Auto-Ordnance modified the Model of 1921 Thompson in hopes of finding something that would be more marketable. Blowback was not suitable for a powerful military cartridge. That finned barrel topped off with a Cutts compensator, the square receiver, either a drum or box magazine. The butt-stock, pistol grip and forearm are all in new or excellent conditionwith a nice matching medium brown color on all three pieces, showing only very minor handling marks overall, mostly on the sides and underside of the butt-stock.
